Thrift Store Steals: Almost Famous Cords

Thirft store steals!

I love thrift shopping. I'm totally and completely one of "those people". In all seriousness why should I spend 48 bucks for a dress at retail, maybe 28 at an (always fabulous) outlet mall when I can probably find something equally amazing, equally name brand for less than 10 bucks. I love me some thrift shop *channels Macklemore*. Moving on, I went to my local Goodwill and scored some awesome things. Enter red pants.

I got these little beauties for 3.49. Half off, blue tag color of the week. Originally 6.99.

Almost Famous ultra skinny skinnies. I grabbed them thinking "hmmm, they look awful close to being a little too tiny", which almost never happens, however they were pleasantly stretchy so I gave them a go. They are made of some awesome super tiny corduroy that feels like the velveteen rabbit.

Of course, as I tried on my purchase(s, more Thrift Store Steals to come!) a mini-photoshoot ensued with the help of my new LG G Stylo and my new selfie stick.

5 Ways to Rock Colored Pants

What do I add to a statement piece? Why, a few more statement pieces of course! I threw on my go-to easy dress up sweater, a silver -knit crewneck from Rue21. My silver pointy toe flats and a time turner complete this "coffee date and errands" look.

These were practically painted on, I thought a loose flowy top would pair well and stave off some of the harlot vibe. I chose a breezy batwing tunic I got last spring for $2 at Rue21. I don't know if you can tell but I love that store. Olive green wedges from shoedazzle.com.

Valentine's date night outfit anyone? Black ruffle off-the-shoulder crop and black wedges from shoedazzle.com. Feminine with a little edge, a fab pop of color and practically begs you to shrug on your black leather bomber. Add red lips to complete the look.

Buttoned up doesn't have to be boring. With my classic adulty George dress shirt under a half sleeve button up cardi, I'm respectable yet fabulous. My office/drinks after work ensemble features my new favorite shoes: my Mossimo from Target black suede booties. Comfortable enough to wear all day.

You always have the option to down play and go about your day as Casual AF Girl. Beat up brown leather biker boots, socks that I'm pretty sure belong to my brother and a lived in tee from high school (repping SHHS! Go Huskies!) compete to be the most casual. However be warned, this outfit is most likely NSFW.

Overall, I love these pants. Awesome and astonishingly versatile pants that I am so glad I had the privilege to add to my collection.

Fairly New Product Review

Anime piggy buns after a semi-full face has been applied.

I always love the opportunity to try out new things, so when I found a lipstick from a brand that I had been wanting to try on major clearance, I thought a tutorial type post was in order. Today I used 3 items that were new to me, and one that I have only used a couple of times as I hadn't been terribly over pleased with the initial results.

The culprits.

I always start with a clean face. Especially before I clean it more. I used a face mask today that I hadn't used before, a Freeman brand "Sparkling Pear Pore Cleansing Mask".

This is the type of mask that dries on your skin, which gives that special scary quality while you walk around for a while waiting for it to set. It felt good going on and after I rinsed it off, my face felt smooth and tight and very clear. I could definitely see the difference in my pores.

Then I used my NYC BB powder with a makeup sponge. I have used this product before but I was always disappointed with how much I cold see my pores with it. It doesn't fill in as well as a cream or liquid does. Since I had seen such a difference from the mask (I highly suggest using masks if you don't, it's good for you!) I figured I would give this product another try.

I was happy with my results this time!

Next I went to my e.l.f. golden bronzer. I always start with the darker shades and make a "3" shape on both sides of my face, then I use the lighter shades, the nude and the goldtone and blend them together over my cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. It gives a subtle glow, unlike heavy contouring, which I still haven't tried yet. I find that for my skintone, the golden bronzer also adds a little bit of more natural color that goes over the foundation or what have you.

I used my tried and true Hard Candy Fox in a Box blush. I always use the light pink and the highlighter blended together on my blush brush over the apples of my cheeks. I try to not go overboard, just enough to give a pop of color and a healthy glow. Tip: smile when you apply blush, it makes it look more natural and halts pink slashes across your cheeks.

Speaking of a healthy glow, I love my Sephora Luminous Glow powder. I don't technically know where I am supposed to use this, but I apply with my fingertips under my eyes and all over my lids. The color is subtle enough on me that it just gives a fabulous fairy-like barely-glitter finish. I love, love this product.

As I've said in a previous post, if I'm wearing lipstick, I'm wearing lip liner. I like my Rimmel liner in nude, it goes well underneath reds, pinks, berrys or anything else, but the pencil application is a semi-pain in the rump. I always apply just inside the natural line of my lips and do not exaggerate my natural lip shape. I have larger lips, so I feel no need to pull a Kylie Jenner.

This is my new lipstick! It is Flower, by Drew Barrymore in Flamingo Flower. It is a standard lip solid lipstick that was a bit tough to get going on very first use, but after a moment I was happy. Moderate application across both my lips and I skipped the blotting step as the color was not overwhelming.

This product is vaguely matte, which I prefer over a high-gloss shine. It is creamy and velvety with a fabulous even color coverage. I was very happy with this color in particular, I love the shade and I think it will become a regular in my color rotation.

Last but not least, I used my new Maybelline Falsies mascara in Black drama. I always use Maybelline mascara ad I have used this type in the past but I felt it was definitely worth revisiting. Does it actually look like fake lashes? Nah. But does it look great, extend the lash length, go on evenly and stay put all day? Yep. I definitely prefer it over the kind that I had been using previously.

Final results.
Very happy with my new items and always love a good excuse to put on a full face on my off days!

What I Wore to Work Today!

Hi everyone! I'm having a particularly good hair day, so I thought I'd do a quick quick What I Wore before heading off to work! I chose this because, even though we may have to wear a uniform-ish, or follow a dress code at work doesn't mean you can't make it your own and stretch the limits. I have my dress code navy blue collared half-sleeve shirt underneath my cute-but-still-reasonably-within-code top. This top is actually a bodycon mini that I've rolled under to create a lightweight, clingy sweater. I've also got on my go-to Dickie's work pants. These things get me through thick and thin and are by far the most flattering and workable pant that I have. I am sporting my silver slippers too, but you can't see those. Have a happy hair day, for one and all!

What I Wore

What I wore to run errands with the kids before work.

Went to the grocery store with the kids feeling like one hot MILF!

Adorable nude and coral dotted about a girl crop top with a large ruffle to help us small busted ladies (thanks, mom!), black cuffed skinnies and black patent simple sandals. Easy summer outfit that's low maintenance and versatile. I had my tried and true Old Navy purple cardi on standby until the sun came out. Did my hair last night with magnetic rollers for the first time. Feeling beautiful and bouncy and awesome in this ensemble with the added flair of excellent hair! Have an awesome day!

My Golden Goddess Routine

I would by no means declare myself some makeup expert, but I have gotten myself in the habit of regularly applying makeup 3-5 days a week, where it used to be 0-1 days, maybe. I don't always do a what I call a "full face", but when I feel like putting on some makeup, I put some on. For myself, because I feel like it and I don't want to hear any of this makeup shaming. I honestly find that when I am having a rough day or feeling particularly like crap, it helps me to put on a full face. Knowing that I look good in my eyes makes me feel marginally better. Taking care of myself helps remind me that I am a golden goddess and sometimes I like to let it shine a bit brighter.

Step 1: Start with a clean face! You always hear it but really, clean your face. I chose to do a mask after my regular facial scrub, a fabulous ritual that I do a few times a week. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Step 2: Working on your lovely fresh canvas, start with your base: foundation, BB cream, what have you. I like to use BB cream. It's an awesome tool to have in your belt. Concealer, moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation, lightweight coverage that can actually be good for your skin? In one bottle? Yes, please. I apply with a sponge applicator. An even coverage all over the face, including over the eyelids, under the chin and blended into the hairline. Put on a little colorless lip balm to ensure soft lips for even coverage.

Step 3: Now your concealer, I prefer liquid over crayon version. What? Pump the brakes, concealer after foundation? Yes. After your initial base, you can more clearly see the spots that were not covered to your liking and correct from there. The trick is to, like always, ensure that you are blending properly.

Step 4: A little bronzer to add the golden to  my goddess. I don't have as heavy as a hand with this stuff as I think I could bear to go. (I would like to try full contouring though, it's amazing what you can do with makeup!) I lightly contour my face with the darker color in s sweeping motion with a foundation brush in a "3" shape on both sides of my face: from the side of the forehead down the slope of the chipmunk cheeks and around the chin.

Then some of the golden toned, highlighting powder. This goes on the middle of the forehead, down the nose and onto the apples of the cheeks directly below the eye.

Step 5: Blush. I have a Hard Candy Fox in a Box pallet and when i go with a barely-there eye I like a pop of pink on my face, so sue me!  Where you apply your blush will depend upon the shape of your face, but I do mine with an angled blush brush, in a sweeping downward motion in a crescent shape to hug my natural features. I always make sure to smile when I do this, partially because I can't always have resting bitch face and partially because I want to keep that highlight high on the cheeks and accentuate the cheekbones, as opposed to the apples.

Step 6: Lightly dust pressed powder all over face. It helps the makeup to set a bit. I use my angled blush brush and Wet n' Wild Coverall pressed powder.

Step 7: Bat those eyes. I love a very natural look in my daily routine when it comes to eye makeup. I have recently tried my hand at tight lining, which I thought would be impossible but is merely a pain-in-the-ass at best, and I am a huge fan of the low-profile yet defined look that it lends. Use a liquid liner when doing your liner this way. Don't put yourself through the hassle to have it rub off within an hour.

I grew out of wearing much colored eye shadow outside of what's included on a nude pallet and I don't regret it one bit. I found one of my current favorite items that is useful for my luminous glow. Conveniently, it's called Luminous Glow by Sephora and it's wonderful. I use my fingers to apply and smooth some on the apples of my cheeks around my eye as a highlight and from my brows to the eyelid crease as a lovely little bit of sparkle. I've been known to add a gold on occasion, or a shimmery pink.

Step 8:  If I'm wearing lipstick, then I'm wearing lip liner. I love this nude Rimmel stuff. For a daily look to do anything in, I go between my matte Stoplight Red longwear or this, my favorite nude, a lovely mauve color that I bought from a dollar store and have not found the equivalent to in any other nude yet.

Step 9: Mascara. I always do this last. Always always. Done. I go very light on the bottom lashes to lessen the smudges that inevitably occur halfway through the day.

I have gotten in the habit of doing my makeup first and my hair second. It sucks to get a glob of makeup on freshly styled hair, especially if you favor down styles. It is also much easier to throw together a hair do when you're pinched on time. It usually ends better than the reverse: being halfway through a full face of makeup and realizing you have to be out of the house in 2 minutes not to be late, Whoops. It looks like a lot of steps to do this routine but all in all, I never spend more than 15 minutes on my face, not including of course the time to wash and apply masks.

Okay, I've never done this before...attempted at a beauty explanation/semi-tutorial/step-by-step type post. Bear with me and let me know what you think!
