Full disclosure: this interview was with my husband, who was not completely unwilling.

T: What kind of style do you like to see (on females)?

“I like sundresses and yoga pants.” (chuckles)

T: What trends, or specific items, do you hate?

“Button up shirts and suits...a business environment is different but if that’s just what you wear it’s not attractive to me. I don’t like suits on females...is that sexist?”

T: How do you feel about make-up? 

 “Moderation, that’s all I can say.”

T And what about high heels?

“Moderation. You can’t just wear high heels with everything, like short shorts. You can’t just look like a hooker. And they can’t be like 8 inches long. You can’t just add 8 inches to your height and think it's okay. It’s trickery.”

T: What's that supposed to mean? Are you trying to say something? (I'm 4' 11" and have been known to wear some possibly ridiculous shoes in possibly ridiculous situations)

"No! (chuckles) I don't mean you specifically. When I met you you were barefoot."

T: Do you consider yourself “stylish”?

“I would be more if...I can tell if something looks good, so yeah. My wife dresses me so, yeah!”

This is entirely true.

T: What does the term "stylish" mean to you?

“Able to coordinate clothes or...pull off something different and make it work.”

T: What’s your personal style?

“Thug life. Just joking, um basketball-skaterish?...um whatever-my-wife-dresses-me-in style. And pajama pants.”

That's What He Said

For my first interview post, I spoke with a guy I work with about his views on style, his own and others. I'll admit, I was nervous to ask him, I warned him not to laugh at me before I popped the question. After I told him I'd started a blog, he barely withheld chuckling and asked "A blog about what?" I told him "Oh...just stuff I like, like shoes and makeup and stuff." He started telling me that he wouldn't really know much about style, I countered with ,"You see people, everyone has an opinion." Finally, "Well, I definitely wasn't expecting that when you said you had something to ask me."

T: Would you consider yourself stylish?
   Upon hearing the word stylish, he immediately associated "stylish" for a man to coincide with an effeminate man. No, would not consider himself stylish at all.

T: Do you have a personal style?
   Would call his personal style "comfortable", jeans and a hoodie type. Does not bring the business dress of slacks and button down tops outside of work.

T: What trends, or specific items do you hate?
   "Spandex is a privilege, not a right." He also specifically stated a problem with graphics on the backside of pants for those out of their teen years. "It looks trashy...and immature, it's for kids. It's the same thing with anyone...trying to look like they're in their 20's when they're in their 50's. Act your age, dress your age."

T: What do you like to see (on women specifically)?
   "Well, I guess I'm like most guys, I suppose."
   "What do you mean by that?"
   "Well, yoga pants are awesome."

T: How do you feel about makeup?
   He generally felt like less is more. "A lot of guys may say that girl's shouldn't wear any makeup at all, but, I don't know, sometimes it can look nice. As long as it's not overly done. Everything in moderation."

T: What about high heels?
   "Maybe for specific occasions. But wearing 6-inch tall heels going grocery shopping? I'm going to think you're trying to pick up a man. Business or work heels are different..."
 
He did leave me with parting words: "You know what I really hate, though? I don't see it so much around here as I did in California, but that line (traces around chin with finger) when the face and the neck are a different color."
